Frequently asked questions

If your question isn't here, ask it in the intake form. A case manager follows up, not a call center.

What does Arbor do?

We prepare, file, and follow up on long-term care Medicaid applications for people entering or living in nursing homes and other long-term care settings. We work with the county office until a determination is issued.

How much does it cost?

One flat fee, quoted in writing before any work begins. It does not change based on how many hours the file takes or how many requests the county sends.

My parent is already in a nursing home. Is it too late?

No. Many families come to us after admission. Start your application as soon as you can, because the filing date affects when coverage can begin.

Do I need to meet with you in person?

No. We work entirely by phone, email, and secure document upload, so you can work with us from anywhere in the states we serve.

Are you a law firm?

No. Arbor is not a law firm and does not give legal advice. If your situation calls for legal planning, we will tell you, and we are glad to work alongside your attorney.

What is the look-back period?

When reviewing a long-term care application, Medicaid examines financial transactions from a set period before the application date, typically 60 months. Gifts or transfers in that window may need to be explained and can affect eligibility.

How long does approval take?

It depends on the county and on how complete the file is. A complete, well-documented application avoids the most common delays: requests for missing records and denials for failure to verify.

What if the application is denied?

We review the reason with you, correct and resubmit where that is possible, and explain your options, including requesting a fair hearing.

Which states do you serve?

New York and other states where long-term care Medicaid is administered at the county level. Start your application and we will confirm we cover your county.

What do I need to get started?

Only the short form on this site. After the free consultation, your case manager sends a document checklist for your situation.
